Remote revival of your dead hard drive


 


Setup Instructions

First of all, make sure that you have physical access to working PC in order to be able connect/disconnect IDE drives such as HDDs and CD-ROMs, this PC is running WindowsXP or Windows 2000 and you have administrator rights (in order to install new applications).

Turn off computer, take off computer case cover and find out spare IDE/ATA interface cable. Most of all PCs have maximum 2 IDE cables, either with 40 or with 80 conductors (Both types can be used with iDriveRepair). In most cases, system HDD (which operation system is booted from) is connected to Primary IDE Channel. You should connect your problem HDD to another (Secondary) IDE Channel, otherwise iDriveRepair won't work.
  IMPORTANT!!
A. If you see only one IDE/ATA cable inside your computer, it is necessary to add another one. It is impossible to work with iDriveRepair if computer has the only IDE/ATA cable.s
B. If you see CD-ROM connected to second IDE/ATA cable, you should disconnect CD-ROM. Only problem HDD should be connected to Secondary IDE Channel, without any other device on the same Channel.
 

Once more. You should see the system HDD connected to Primary IDE Channel, and your problem HDD connected to Secondary IDE Channel, and no other device like another HDD, CD-ROM, CD-RW, DVD-ROM etc on the Secondary IDE Channel.

You can use cable marked with green exclamation on Fig. 1, because both its connectors are empty. You cannot use cable marked with red sign on Fig. 1, becaues another connector of the same IDE/ATA cable is connected to system HDD.

Make sure your problem HDD has jumpers in "Master" position.

Each HDD has a label with description how to set HDD as Master.

While the computer is turned off, connect power connector. Be sure yellow wire is turned to outside during connection (as shown with yellow arrow on Fig.3)

Do not connect spare IDE/ATA cable located at step 2 (narked with green exclamation on Fig. 3).
Just place it near HDD, without connection. You should connect only power connection at this step

Turn on computer and wait until WindowsXP (or Windows 2000) is loaded.

Run iDriveRepair. It will connect to iDriveRepair server and will ask you to connect IDE/ATA cable to the problem HDD at the proper moment.
Be sure you place red-marked wire of IDE/ATA cable closer to power connector of HDD.

Connect IDE/ATA cable accurately, checking that IDE/ATA cable edge with red wire is located neighbour to power connector.

All is done, your system is ready to work with iDriveRepair technician.
